Many snowboarders will presently be searching for their salopettes and scooting away hunting for the largest snowfall. And beyond question the results of your carbon footprint will be virtually as far down the list of holiday to dos as a Christmas cracker after the Christmas holidays. Merely last year, a slow snowfall made the the newspaper headlines and tourists were panicky about the smattering of snow disappearing nearly as soon as they landed.
Skiing holiday company Chalet 1802, placed at the bottom of Monte Bianco in Chamonix ski resort in the Alps, is one of the first autonomous businesses to go carbon negative and provide snowboarders an environmentally friendly alternative while booking their skiing trip. Chalet 1802 owner Marilla stated: Last winter was quite a shock with the hottest winter in 60 yrs in France. Famous resorts like Hautacam, Superbagneres and Les Houches suffered. It was warm and the snow didnt last so a lot of the early snowboarding season in the Alps was uneven. We resolved to go carbon neutral to help preserve the ski resort.
Marilla said: We are not seeking to prescribe to punters but I feel its all important to afford the guests the selection without augmenting the cost of the skiing holiday. If the client book with us and goes to our skiing chalet they can more than off-set their carbon footprint and we soak up the additional costs. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub – holiday makers want lavishness but not at the expense of the environs, so we considered methods of lessening the impact of a client driving over here for a ski holiday.”
Chalet 1802 have also partnered with organisation Climate Care, which deals with global warming by making C02 deductions for individuals and firms.
